- Trinity Hoover Zion Benton (2023)
Trinity Hoover is a traditional big who does everything on the floor. The 5'9 center is a monster in the paint, she knows how to use her body to shield off defenders and she has a soft touch with both hands that makes it easy to finish around the basket. Hoover loves finishing over her left shoulder going middle. At SimpsonElite Runs Hoover just bodied her way to the basket, she was stronger and bigger than everyone and once she got fouled, she made them pay at the free throw line. Hoover has a nice touch on her jump shot that when she fills in the duck in spot, it's almost automatic. With doing all her work mostly in the paint, I would love to see her step out more to either shoot or drive the basketball to open the paint for driving lanes.
- Getting it out the Mudd
Class of 2024 Cayden Mudd Wauconda stand out is a stud. Having little success last season being a back up point guard as a sophomore only gave Mudd confidence. Mudd has transformed from a true PG into a combo guard. His ability to score anywhere on the floor from three, the mid range area, and his ability to finish strong at the rim makes Mudd very hard to contain. In SimpsonElite Runs Mudd was nothing short from special, pulling from the volleyball line while defenders continue to keep their hands down. The 5'10 combo guard playing off the bounce is very exciting to watch. The kid plays with such swag and poise that you never know what you're going to get. Mudd will be playing full time on the ball this upcoming winter and I expect nothing less from spectacular. You can find Mudd playing summer ball with Fundamental U.
- Dalen Terry's Impact?
Can Dalen Terry have an impact on the Chicago Bulls? Can he crack the rotation with guys like Demar, Ball, Lavine, White, Ayo, and Caruso? I think so. The Arizona Wildcat, 6'7 frame, ability to guard 1-4 is going to make the Bulls front office make some decisions right away. Terry ability to handle the ball, shoot the ball, create for himself and others is something the Bulls can benefit from. I got a chance to watch Dalen Terry play in Chicago at the DenardBros Pro Run and I can honestly say, I was blew away at this kid abilities. He's long, athletic, fast, and of course he can gain a few pounds but if we are talking just flat out talent, the kid has GAME. On a Thursday night where the crowd was anticipating Terry's debut and a first look at the Chicago Bulls first round 18th pick, the fans left with a little hope in the organizations decisions. Terry got right to it with two fast break tomahawk throw downs. Had the crowd on its feet. With his slick ball handling skills and impeccable footwork, he was able to dribble around defenders as if they were cones. He shoots really well off the bounce, plays with a nice pace, and he can see the floor with the best of them. We were able to catch up with Terry after the game was over and he had this to say per SimpsonElite Media "This is big for me, I just love playing basketball" the 6'7 guard said, "This isn't new, I had to come here, I just wanna hoop." This upcoming season we will keep tabs on Terry and we are sure that mid January with All Star break approaching that Terry will make an impact.
- Tristan Rice 6'2 Warren(2024)
Looking at Tristan Rice before actually watching him play, you would assume that he your typical wide, slow, undersized center that just used for setting screens or getting a few rebounds. That however is completely not the case when discussing Tristan Rice. What stands out about Rice is surprisingly his good ball handling skills. He is very good at taking defenders off the dribble and is able to change gears using hesitation moves even use a crossover move that can get him to the basket off the bounce. He utilized this very well at SimpsonElite Runs. He has great size to finish in the paint over both shoulders and is able to hit the outside shot. He does a great job of using his body and sealing defenders for the easy layup.
- Ian Brown New Trier (2024)
A special talent... Like a coach on the floor, incredibly competitive and tough and the game comes very easy to him. Brown is a great player in the half court, he can create off the bounce for himself, he really excels when the ball is in his hands at the top of the key. Very good scorer with complete offensive repertoire, effortless shooting stroke, has anticipation and basketball understanding. Brown has great intangibles, competes and inspire others to play hard, he's a blue collar player and I would want him on my team any day. The 6-foot-4 guard plays with great intensity and aggressiveness, his athleticism is what make it easy to finish over the defenders. With great leadership abilities, Brown see's the floor well, great at finding teammates for scoring opportunities and is solid with moving without the ball.
- SimpsonElite Runs Week 4 was EPIC!
This week featured some elite prospects in the state of Illinois such Sean Reynolds(Dekalb), Nick Taylor(Glenbrook South), Gianni Cobb(Perspectives), Jaylan McElroy(Depaul Prep) and Colby Smith(New Trier). It was a hard fought battle from start to end, you had guys talking and competing in the agility drills. You had guys chirping with each other in the 1 v 1 drills and they attacked each other just to make one another better. I loved the way Jaylan McElroy and Devin Malone(Waukegan) competed in the combine drills, gave me chills up my spine how hard those guys worked. Malone is a work horse and he will be a sleeper this upcoming season. When it was all said and done, there had to be ONE MVP, but for the FIRST time in SimpsonElite Runs History, there was a CO-MVP award giving to Nick Taylor and Gianni Cobb. Nick Taylor with pouring in 36Pts 8Rbs 3Ast, Gianni Cobb added 28Pts 7Ast, they did not disappoint with a lob off the backboard from Cobb to Taylor.
- Is Dejaun Graise good as they say?
Dejaun Graise had a great showing at SimpsonElite Top Prospects Run last week. He is better than advertised. The 6'2 Wisconsin native is considered to be ranked 15th in the state of WI, per "Prep Hoops". His smooth ball handling, tough shot making, and ability to create off the bounce is what separates Graise from his peers. I stamp him as a consistent bucket getter, he is exciting to watch. He can score from all 3 levels on the floor. He can score from deep, the mid range game area, and if you guard him too close, he will blow right by you. With his skinny frame he is still able to take contact finish over the top of you. What shocked me most about the 6'2 guard was his athleticism. During the combine drills Graise was throwing down all types of dunks, that was the final touch on his game that I loved. This kid can be real special if he continues to learn the game, play with a little more pace, and stay in the gym. You can find Graise on the circuit playing with well known Mac Irvin Fire 16U EYB and Kenosha Tremper for his high school games this upcoming winter.
- Javerion Banks Warren (2025)
Very long, athletic, and can handle the ball well, Banks can be a sleeper in the class of 2025 if he continues to work on his game. With his long arms and big hands, Banks can be one of the best defenders in the state of Illinois if that's what he wants to do. His lateral quickness and speed, he was able to get his hands in the passing lane for deflections and steals, he picked a few pockets at SimpsonElite Runs. With Banks quickness, he was able to blow by defenders for straight line layups. Banks have to continue to work on his outside shot because once he make the defense pay with consistent shot making, it is going to be extremely hard stay in front of him.
- Jazelle Young Kenwood Academy (2023)
Jazelle Young was just named the #20 player in the state of Illinois, in the class of 2023(per Prep Hoops) as she look to make her mark this upcoming season. The 6-foot Loyola commit was nothing short of greatness. You saw the raw talent Young possess and she was able to put that on full display at SimpsonElite Runs. Young was doing everything on the floor, communicating, defending, rebounding, scoring and making others around her better. Young likes to do her work at the high post, that way it gives her shot, pass, spacing and time to make her reads. Young has a real feel for the game, making the right reads and creating her own shot is what separates her from most players, and at that size, rightfully so. She knows how to fill lanes when running in transition for open layups. She works really hard on the glass, one time she rebounded the ball 3 straight times until she finally finished the layup, a real workhorse. Young guard skills was really impressive, she isn't flashy but she can almost beat the defender off the bounce each time down. She can defend every position on the floor and she does a great job at creating mismatches in the flow of the game. Young will have a breakout season this year and I'm looking forward to seeing her climb the rankings this upcoming season.
- Derek Bishop is the real deal!
With Derek Bishop being mostly sidelined at SimpsonElite Runs due to injury, it didn't take much to realize that the kid is a stud. Bishop is considered to be ranked 14th in state of IL, "per Illinois Hoops Report". I was lucky to catch a game last season, Mundelein Vs North Chicago when he was just a freshman and lets just say, you couldn't tell. The 6'2 guard lit the gym up with a variety of threes and strong takes to the basket. The pace Bishop plays with allows him to get by defenders whenever he wants. The savvy ball handling and IQ is where the prospect differs from the pack. Im expecting the Sophomore to have a break out season with putting up unreal stats, mostly points because he's that good. He's probably on pace to being Mundelein's all time leading scorer. Wouldn't be shocked if he breaks the record his junior year. Ill be looking forward to seeing Bishop at SimpsonElite Runs this upcoming spring, to see how his game developed. Bishop plays summer ball with Chicago Meanstreets and attends Mundelein highschoool.
